Teodor Currentzis and Utopia to Take Part in Peter Sellars’s Production at the Paris Opera
Opéra national de Paris has revealed its programme for the 2024/25 season. In January and February 2025, the Utopia Orchestra and Choir conducted by Teodor Currentzis will participate in the production of Castor et Pollux directed by Peter Sellars.
The forthcoming project revives Jean-Philippe Rameau’s tragic opera first staged in 1737 at the Académie royale and inspired by the myth of the Gemini. Rarely performed in its original version, this bold piece thrives on contrasts and emotion, epitomized in the renowned aria ‘Tristes apprêts’. A new rendition of the lyric tragedy will debut featuring Jeanine De Bique as Télaïre, Stéphanie d’Oustrac as Phébé, Reinoud Van Mechelen as Castor, and Marc Mauillon as Pollux.
