DON GIOVANNI RELEASED TODAY!
The new recording of Mozart’s masterpiece by Teodor Currentzis and his orchestra and choir MusicAeterna is released worldwide today. It represents the culmination of a 4-year project to record Mozart’s three Da Ponte Operas in no-compromise studio quality. Read some of the sensational early reviews here:
“What boldness (…) and what energy and punchiness he instills. If Giovanni himself were conducting, he would conduct it like this” THE TIMES, LONDON
“This recording reverberates with raw energy while demonstrating a finely honed subtlety throughout the score, which makes the listener want to be sitting in the front carriage of Giovanni’s roller-coaster ride into hell, throwing up their arms every few minutes in sheer delight. […] A Don Giovanni for all eternity” SPIEGEL ONLINE, HAMBURG
“Eighteen months ago, I discovered someone who changed my life forever. His name is Teodor Currentzis. He’s a conductor who has recorded three operas for Sony music that are the single greatest albums that I have ever heard. And I don’t say that lightly.” James Rhodes for THE GUARDIAN, LONDON
“The release, originally planned last fall, was delayed by a year. But the result was worth it: voracious tempi, carnal sonorities, voices attuned with an erotic tension and a permanent latent desire … Currentzis’ Don Giovanni is as striking – even scary at times – as its subject.” LE FIGARO, PARIS
