New album ‘Rameau – The Sound of Light’ – celebrates the composer’s 250th anniversary

Teodor Currentzis and his orchestra and choir MusicAeterna celebrate master composer Jean-Philippe Rameau’s 250th anniversary year with the international release of “The Sound of Light” – a uniquely beautiful anthology of his arias and orchestral works.

The selection of works is taken from Rameau’s most celebrated stage œuvres including Les Fêtes d’Hébé, Zoroastre, Les Boréades, Les Indes galantes, Castor et Pollux and Platée, amongst others, and illustrates Currentzis’s unique interpretation of the composer’s music.

“The most amazing phenomenon in life is light”, states Currentzis. “It allows us to breathe, to live, to love. So – how to explain to someone who has never been embraced by the sun what light actually is? I would play them music by Rameau. Rameau’s music radiates the richest Apollonian light.”

Soprano Nadine Koutcher and bass Alexei Svetov sing several works on the new recording which will be released internationally on October 20, 2014.
