This Summer the Salzburg Festival is Hosting Utopia

This summer the Salzburger Festspiele | Salzburg Festival is hosting Utopia. The orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis will perform Purcell’s Indian Queen and Mozart’s Große Messe c-moll.

On July 31 and August 2, the musicians will present a concert performance of the semi-opera The Indian Queen in the author’s version by Peter Sellars and Teodor Currentzis. In the new libretto (created 10 years ago for the landmark theatre production), vocal performances alternate with excerpts from the novel The Lost Chronicles of Terra Firma by Rosario Aguilar, while the original music is complemented by church hymns and secular songs by Purcell. Jeanine De Bique, Julian Prégardien, Rachel Redmond, Jarrett Ott, Dennis Orellana, Andrey Nemzer, Nicholas Newton and Amira Casar are performing the leading parts.

On August 7 and 8 Utopia and Teodor Currentzis will present their interpretation of Mozart’s Große Messe c-moll featuring soloists Nadezhda Pavlova, Rachel Redmond, Mingjie Lei and Matthias Winckhler. The confluence of double chorus and a large orchestra are to embody solemnity and soulful beauty of this score onstage.
